The main driving force of the economy of a country is the industrial sector. In this regard, the contribution of the garment industry in Bangladesh is the highest. This sector has not only enriched the country’s foreign exchange reserves, but also ensured the employment of countless people. The country’s economy has achieved enviable success through the garment industry. Therefore, Bangladesh is now ahead among the competing countries in terms of economic and social indicators in the world.
Presently, Bangladesh ranks second only to China in the export of ready-made garments in the world. This product has given “Made in Bangladesh” fame all over the world. The garment industry is one of the main contributors behind the changing Bangladesh today.
Among the products manufactured by the garment industry in Bangladesh are Shirts, Pajamas, Jeans pants, Jackets, Trousers, T-shirts, Polo shirts, Baby dress, Sweaters, Laboratory coats, Sportswear, Winter warm garments, Night dresses, blouses, etc.
The main market for our readymade garments is the USA. Besides, Canada, EEC countries, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and various countries in the Middle East. In total, Bangladesh garments are exported to more than 23 countries.
Due to the demand in the international market and the active role of Government and domestic entrepreneurs, the number of garment factories currently stands at more than four thousand. Bangladesh exported ready-made garments worth USD 42 billion in 2021-2022 fiscal year and is expected to reach USD 100 billion by 2030.
Bangladesh is advancing efficiently in the competitive world market and has the ability to supply world class and modern readymade garments at comparatively low prices and capable of producing any quantity of products more than ever before.
There are more than 50 lakh workers working in the garment industry and 85% of them are women. Regular training is being imparted to them for capacity building. Product quality and design are being modernized with time. Building of 100 Special Economic Zones in important places of the country for industrial development is progressing rapidly. Hundreds of buying houses in the country are engaged in buying and selling garments products around the world.
As the garment industry is playing an important role in rapid industrialization, as a result, various spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing, printing, etc. industries are being established in this country.
Apart from this, the demand for transportation, banking, shipping, and insurance services has also increased.
