“Reuse and recycle, protect the environment”

Plastic recycling business is very popular to many people in the world. To protect the environment from pollution, used plastics are being collected and put into the machines, melt it and produce plastic granules to reproduce plastic products. In Bangladesh, there are around three lakh people involved in this sector.  Many people are coming forward in this business because of good profit with less capital.

Basically, abandoned water bottles, soft drink bottles, medicine bottles and various plastic items are one of the sources of income of the lower class people.  And these abandoned materials obtained from them are recycled and sold by the traders in the country and abroad.

There is a huge demand for these recycling grains in the country.  Moreover, it is possible to earn profit by exporting this grain outside the country.  There are mainly 07 types of plastics used in the world. Those are PET, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS and others (Details shown on the picture)

There are a total five thousand factories in different cities of Bangladesh including Dhaka, Chittagong, Narayanganj, Khulna, Cumilla, Rajshahi and Bogra to recycle the abandoned plastics.  Among them, the number of small factories is 3500; medium 1 thousand 420 and large size 80. More than eighty of these plastic recycling factories export about 40,000 tons of flex annually. The Bangladesh government is currently subsidizing the export of PET bottle flex and polyester staple fiber at the rate of 10%.  The produced flakes and PSF are mostly being exported to China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Russia and several European countries.

About 100,000 tons of raw materials for making plastic bottles are imported in the country every year for the production of plastic bottles.  About twenty percent of it is reused, but the remaining 80 percent is thrown away as plastic waste after use. Every year around 75 thousand tons of PET plastic scrub is supplied from here, which is used as raw material for this industry.

Considering the capacity of the industries, the demand of about two lakh tons of plastic scraps has been created in the country every year.  Adding local supplies and imports, the country’s annual supply of PET plastic is 70,000 tons, which is about one-third of local demand.

It is known that the demand for products made from Pet Flex in the international market is increasing at a great rate.  In order to protect the environment from the damage of plastic scraps, companies such as Adidas Pearly, Girlfriend Collective, Alford, Ever lane, Nike are increasing the use of products made from recycled scraps.
